Ways to Email the Fundraiser Invite
Why it needs special attention
The fundraiser invite is an HTML formatted email. It is also "responsive" or "adaptive"
-- if viewed in a browser, vs email software, vs smartphone, the formatting reconfigures.
The following instructions shows possible ways to email the fundraiser, so that it arrives
as intended. (in order of decreasing effectiveness)
Method 1 Cutting and Pasting HTML Source Code (Requires Thunderbird)
This is the *best* way to send the invite, and the delivered email will arrive in the
format as intended.
- Go here to open the HTML invite in a browser http://adobo.puebloscience.org/gala2017_invite_with_message.html
- Right click and view page source
- Select the entire html code (Ctrl A or Cmd-A) and copy to clipboard (Ctrl-C or Cmd-C)
- Compose a new message in Thunderbird as usual.
- Fill out recipient and subject
- Once you go to the body of the email, click on Insert -> HTML
- Paste the code from clipboard into the window that pops up (Ctrl-V or Cmd-V)
- Modify the personal message
- Send the email.
Method 2 Cutting and Pasting the HTML Page
Rather than pasting source code, we just load the HTML page in the browser and paste
the entire thing into the body of an email message. I think this is actually as good
as Method 1, but I haven’t checked all combinations. Seems to work with Apple Mail
and Thunderbird (I hear bad things about Outlook though). Also note, doing this with
GMail’s web interface strips the background image of the main header (eg it will
be plain dark gray, but still responsive )
- Go here to open the HTML invite in a browser http://adobo.puebloscience.org/gala2017_invite_with_message.html
- Select the entire page (eg Ctrl A or Cmd-A) and copy to clipboard (Ctrl-C or Cmd-C)
- Compose a new message in your email software (eg recommended, Apple Mail or Thunderbird)
- Fill out recipient and subject
- Once you go to the body of the email, paste from your clipboard the web page (Ctrl-V
or Cmd-V)
- Modify the personal message
- Send the email.
Method 3 Using Pueblo Science Web Interface
This method is like Method 1 in process, but it is not ideal, because it will also give
a plain dark gray background (as if you did Method 2 using Gmail web interface).
This is still responsive.
- Go here to open the HTML invite in a browser http://adobo.puebloscience.org/gala2017_invite_with_message.html
- Right click and view page source
- Select the entire html code (Ctrl A or Cmd-A) and copy to clipboard (Ctrl-C or
Cmd -C)
- Access the Pueblo Science webmail at : https://secure25.webhostinghub.com:2096/
- Enter your username/ password
- You must choose Roundcube (and not Horde or Squirrelmail)
- Start a new message composition
- Fill out recipient and subject
- There is an option called Editor Type, which by default is set to Plain Text.
Set this to HTML.
- When you do so, a HTML toolbar pops up (eg allows you to edit text style etc)
- On the far right, there is a the insert source cod button that looks like this:
< >
- Click it
- Paste the code from your clipboard into the window that pops up (Ctrl-V or Cmd-V)
- Modify the personal message
- Send the email.
Method 4 Easiest Way
The easiest way is to re-forward the invite I sent earlier. Send this from a computer
(not phone) to have the most normal looking invitation. This won't be responsive.
